Clutha kicked off with the wind in their favour and took the attack, llissot missed a high pass which would have enabled him to clear, and then a free kick to Wilson took the hall near the goal-line. The backs failed to clear, being smothered by tho forwards, and play closed up for a few minutes. E. Hurring opened up and passed to Boddington, who grounded the ball. Wilson’s kick passed just outside tho post. Stanaway and Townley took Crescent to tho twentyfive. Clutha cleared from Bisset, but Townley rushed again, this time being tackled by Mulvey. A penalty to Wilson failed to find the line, and Sutton returned tho whol cdistance with a iinky run. Stewart carried Clutha back and passed to Dawson, wlvo knocked on, thus losing a good chance. Clutha kept up the attack, and Dawson again tried to race across, but was well collared by Townley. Cook took Crescent away, and Gadsby carried on, but tho rush was halted by a forward pass, a pass by Stanaway was intercepted, and Clutha swept upheld, T. Hughes at full-back beating E. Hurring to score. At half-time the score was: Clutha 11, Crescent 0. Crescent opened out briskly. Townley gave Sutton possession, and after a brief run drop-kicked a fine goal, putting Crescent one point in the lead. Crescent returned tho kick-off, and from a scrum T. Hughes heeled to M'Millan, who passed to Townley, who scored a try well out. Sutton’s kick missed. Crescent 7-3. Clutha rushed and • Stanaway relieved. Wilson fielded an attempt to goal and sent play up-field. Gold attempted to break away, but Stanaway and Townley brought the ball back, working down to tho goal-line, where Henderson cleared.
