ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
RUN OVER BY LORRY. Injuries, which proved fatal, were re* caived by J. S. Jones, a Jersey breeder, of Bell Block, yesterday afternoon. Hs was proceeding to the National Breeds ers’ sale at Hamilton with six bulls in, a lorry, driven by H. J. Calgher. Five miles north of Te Awamutu the vehicle was drawn to the roadside and stopped, one bull having fallen down. Calghen climbed the high sides of the lorry and was engaged in getting the bull on its feet when the vehicle moved Apparently Jones attempted to enter the driver’s cab, but slipped back, and the twin wheels passed over the lower portion of his body. The vehicle ran into a clay cutting, Calgher then discovering Jones lying on the roadway.' Medical aid was summoned and Jones was removed'to Te Awamutu. where ho died two hours later. A YOUNG MAN’S DEATH. The body of John Bennett, aged twenty-seven, a well-known sheep* farmer of the Eskdale district, was found in a cottage on the Napier-Taupo road, about eight miles from Bayview, this morning. The top of deceased’s head had been blown off, and a shotgun was lying across the body.—Napier Press Association.
