Tho Premier (Mr Stovons) says that the railway losses have been checked as the result of the Government’s transport policy, although the full effect could not bo expected until next year. The deficits on the railways and tramways, which last year wore £4,500,000 and £300,000 respectively, would be reduced to half those amounts in the current year. The two objectives sought were divorcement of transport from the type of political control which produced inefficiency and loss, and the securing of services helpful to essential industries and the comfort of the travelling public.
