MAYORESS'S RECEPTION TO DAME SYBIL THORNDIKE
On Saturday evening, following the first appearance of Dame Sybil Thorndike in Dunedin, the Mayoress held ft most delightful reception in her honour in the mayoral suite at the Town Hall. Mrs Black received the guests wearing a frock of palest shrimp pink satin, with an accompanying coatee. Dame Sybil wore for the occasion a frock of white lace and georgette, cut on exquisite lines, and a throw-over shawl of emerald green, richly embroidered and displaying a deep fringe. Mr Lewis Casson, Mr Christopher Casson, and members of the company were also guests of honour. After a welcome had been extended and those present had been introduced to the visitors a delightful programme of music was contributed by M. Paul Saldaigne and Signor Cesaroni (of Wellington). Among those present were members of the Shakespeare Club, the Dunedin Operatic Society, and Otago Women’s Club, and included Lady Fenwick and Miss M. Fenwick, Mr and Mrs Stuart Glendining, Mr and Mrs A. C. Stephens, M. and Madame Saldaigne, Mr and Mrs Cleavin, Mr and Mrs Tombs. Mr and Mrs J. C.
