ACTIVITY IN BENDIGO

The revival of interest in gold mining is not confined to New Zealand, according to statements made by members of the party of Victorian farmers at present visiting Christchurch, who were interviewed by a representative of the ‘ Press.’ In Bendigo, one of the largest centres in Northern Victoria, they said, there was renewed activity, and one mine at least—the Hercules—was achieving remarkable results. In it at present the working was three to four ounces to the ton! Another indication of the interest in gold was the great amount of fossicking being done by unemployed. One bank in Bendigo recently handled £BOO worth of gold in small quantities won by unemployed men in a fortnight.
