WELLINGTON A LOCAL RECORD. The sixth series of championship matches was concluded. Several players were absent in Auckland playing in tho Blanket Shield match. In response to Institute’s 74_Pctono applied tho closure after scoring 240 for five wickets (Mark Nicholls 99 not out), and dismissed Institute tho second time for 113, scoring tho first eightpoint victory of the season by an innings and 53 runs. The boy googly bowler, E. Mallard, followed up his six for 50 in the first innings by taking six for 44 in Institute’s second knock. Hutt met with its first reverse of the season at tho hands of Kilbirnic. Hutt could only respond with 146 to Kilbirnie’s 167, Crook capturing six wickets for 66. Kilbirnie totalled 187 in its second knock (Hepburn 79, Kershaw 45). The veteran E. Judd followed up his eight wickets for 42 in tho first innings with five for 64 in the second innings. Wellington replied to Midland’s 331 with 428 for nine wickets. A feature of the innings was the great stand for 305 made by A. P. Monteath (181) and A. M. Hollings (118) for the fifth wicket, which established a Wellington record. University defeated Old Boys by 296 to 216 (Du Chateau 88, Robinson 44). University scored 106 for five wickets in its second innings.
