ALBION GOES UNDER

UNIVERSITY GAIKS TWO POINTS On the University Oval, Logan Park, Albion suffered defeat at the hands or the improving University team. On the first day of play Albion succumbed when 150 runs were on the slate, while ’Varsity scored 62 tor the loss or one wicket. After a late start and several adjournments on Saturday, the students collected the required number of runs for a first innings’ win after the loss ot five wickets, and continued on until 0.10 to score another 72 runs. _ Ibbotson (22) and Inest (24) resumed their innings, the latter adding 8 runs when he was well taken in the slips by Caskie. North-oast Valley secured a twopoint win on the first innings. The match between Albion and Cansbrook B was concluded on Saturday. On the first day Carisbrook B had compiled 80, while Albion had made 199. Carisbrook B in the second innings made 195 for six wickets, declared. Albion replied with 100 (Downes 26, Hayden 18, Wilson 16. Stone 13, and Cowie 10). Bowling for Grange, Burgess secured six wickets for 42, Anderson two for 23, and Graham one for 1. For Albion Hayden, Cowie, and Hoydon bowled best, Logan Park met Carisbrook C at Carisbrook, the match resulting in a win for Carisbrook by 51 runs. North-east Valiev replied with 80 runs for five wickets, the host scorers being G. Jones (26), Harris (12), Sinclair (12 not out). Bowling for Kaikorai, Mathias took four wickets and Vial one wicket, while for North-east Valley 1. Jones (three wickets for 12 runs), Howard (three for 25), Walker (two for 26), and Vivian (one for 5) shared the honours. North-east Valley won hy five wickets. THIRD GRADE Taieri, 239 (Carr 68, Fiudlatcr 55 retired, Osborne 43, Paul 24 retired, Frew 16 retired), drew with Port Chalmers, 58 for nine wickets (M ‘Don aid

20, Hutton 11). Bowling for Taieri, Scott took six wickets for 28, Frew two for 4, and M'Cunn one for 22. Bowling for Port Chalmers, M‘Donald took three wickets for 22, Donaldson two for 47, and Wilson one for 8. Dunedin A won ffom Christian Brothers’ High School by default. Kaikorai (82) defeated Carisbrook (79) by 3 runs. For Kaikorai Loughrey 21 and Armishaw 33 were the chief scorers, and for Carisbrook Leary 21, Nelson 22, and Broadfoot 14 reached double figures, Homer, M‘Hardy, and Crawford bowled well for Kaikorai, as did Ringland and Grecnall for Carisbrook.

Playing against North-east Valley, Dunedin B batted first, compiling 50 runs (Small 18, Douglas 12). Northeast Valley replied with 128 (Hughes 33 retired, Breeze 31 retired, J. Anderson 26). Bowling for Valley, J. Anderson took four for 3 and Clark six for 25. For Dunedin Small and Staples bowled well. Logan Park met Green Island at Logan Park, the match resulting in a win for Logan Park by 42 runs. Green Island batted first and compiled 74 runs (R. Barnes 20, J. Grant 14, R. Berry 13). A friendly match played at Logan Park between teams representing the Police and the Otago Brush Company resulted in a win for the former by 140 runs to 99. For the Police Sellings made 37 runs, Beecroft 32, and Russell 31, while Sellings took five wickets for 53 runs and Brooks three for 45. For Otago Brush Company I. Frost made 28 runs, Langley 23, Reid 12, and Blee 10, while I. Frost took four wickets for 29 runs and Reid three for 67. LADIES' MATCHES On their home ground at Bathgate Park H.B.’s met Mooney’s Blackbirds. The weather was not conducive to fast scoring, and the game ended in a draw. One of the features of the game was the sound innings of Miss B. Mackay, who carried her bat right through Mooney’s innings and compiled the score of 38 not out. This is the first time in the association games that an opening batsman has carried her bat. H.B. won the toss and decided to put Moonev’s in to bat, the latter compiling 116 runs (B. Mackay 38 not out, Mrs Daniels 25, and Nancy Mackay 21). Miss Prattley howled very well, and claimed four wickets for 17 runs. H.B. scored 73 for seven wickets i . Miss Fenbv was also undefeated in the end, having scored 25 not out,, and Miss White 11 runs. For Mooney s Miss M. Bell took two for 15 and Miss Agnew one for 5. , The Grange Ladies’ Cricket Club met Mooney’s Magpies at the Stadium, Grange winning by 67 runs. Grange made 121 and Mooney’s 54. B. Werner (64) and J. Shepherd (12) batted well for Grange, while O. Wilson (21 not out) and V. Garland (10) batted wel for Mooney’s. Bowling for Grange, T. Divers took six for 13 and N. Knowles four for 2, while V. Garland (five for 80) and D. Boyle (four for 7) bowled well for Mooney’s. In the match between D.I.C. and Arthur Barnett’s, played at Xorth Ground, Arthur Barnett’s hatted first and scored 109 for eight wickets (declared) . H. Johnston (45 not out) batted well. M. Dougall (27), A. Griffiths (24), and S. Lochart (15) batted well for Mayfair. Foby (21), Hungerford (18), and Lattimer (12) were the highest scorers for Penrose’s. M. Dougall took five wickets for Mayfair and Miss Latimer three for Penrose’s. Planet defeated Mayfair at Gardens. Planet compiled 79 runs in tho first innings, Mayfair answering with 39. I). SOUTH OTAGO MATCHES Clutha defeated Owaka, at Balclutha. The former batted first and was dismissed for 200, a feature of the innings being the last-wicket . stand made by I. Stewart and T. Tsukigawa, which lidded 54' runs to the total. The chief scorers were Baxter 61, Stewart 60 T. Gold 57. For Ownkii Alloo took six wickets for 87, Hammy two for 39, Brownley two for 38. Tho visiting team was dismissed for 146. Alloo made the best stand, securing 60 runs. Wilson 32, and Gray 14 were the only other double-figure scorers. Bowling: Brebner four for 21, Lennox four for 50, Baxter one for 48. In a match played at Kaitaugata, S.O. High School drew with Kaitnngata. School hatted first and its innings resulted in a score of 137, to which tho chief contributors were: L. Guost 36, D. Gorniack 26, A. Stewart 22, Doak 18. Parker took four wickets for 39 and Blackburn three for 28. Kaitaugata had scored HI for eight wickets when stumps were drawn, the double-figure batsmen being Grimshaw 23, Kitto 19, Lowe 17, M'Farlane 16. Bowling: D. Gormack three for 19, R.
