ON THE ROLLERS
The attendance of roller enthusiasts and spectators at the Regal Ekating Rink last Saturday evening was quite as large as the sessions held in the middle of winter last year. This popular sport is again well to the fore. All had a thoroughly enjoyable evening, many of the novelties fusing much mirth and plenty of thrills. The quarter-mile race for ladies attracted nine competitors, and a very exciting race resulted. After the first lap two of the competitors had the race practically all to themselves, racing neck and neck, until the last lap, when Miss Jill Fraser fell, leav ing Miss Hazel Dunn an easy winner. Miss Fraser has challenged the winner to a quarter-mile race this evening, which will undoubtedly prove a thriller, as both arc above the average as skaters. Monte Carlo couples and -chariot racing will be features on the varied programme, and a hockey match will also be an added thrill, the Regal team playing all-comers. Hockey on skates is recognised as .one of the fastest sports in the world, thrills being as frequent as the popular dirt track racing; Children wishing to enter for the Regal crayon colouring competition may receive a picture of the rink by applying either at the rink or at Whitcombe and Tombs’s, Princes street. A children’s fancy dress and poster carnival will be held on Friday evening next.
