The Treasury Department announced that 350,000,0l)0dol worth of per cent, four-year Treasury notes were over-subscribed nearly twenty times, while 250,000,000 of i per cent, oneyear certificates were over-subscribed sixteen rimes. As both carried the lowest rates of interest ever offered on such loans, the department expressed concern at the vast amount of funds which the banks are apparently reluctant to advance through ordinary credit channels for business, whereas over 10,000,000,000dol was offered to the Government.
