UMPIRES' ASSOCIATION

The animal report of the Otago Cricket Umpires’ Association, which will be presented at the annual meeting in Mr E. S. Wilson’s board room on Thursday next, states:—

The committee again congratulates the members upon the excellent manner in which they carried out their duties during the season. The season was a very good one, and some very good games had the members officiating. It is with sincere regret that we record the death of Mr G. W. C. Macdonald, who was an active member of the association for some years. It is pleasing to report that the membership of the association was considerably increased last season. There is still room for more members, and we extend a hearty invitation to any players who are retiring from active participation in the game to join the association. Umpires were provided for all senior and second A grade matches. Limitation of membership prevented the selector from appointing umpires for junior matches. The association provided umpires for the Wellington v. Otago match, and their services were highly appreciated. Congratulations are extended to the president, Mr W., Butler, who was honoured in being invited to officiate in the test match South Africa, v. New Zealand at Christchurch, and the Phmket Shield match Wellington v. Auckland at Wellington. The members were again entrusted with the awarding of this cup, and at the end of the season the Grange team secured the most points. A new system of awarding points was adopted, and it seems to be an improvement. The association has a credit balance of £4 11s 9d. Your committee would express its thanks to those clubs who assisted us financially.
