COUNTRY RELIEF
Advice has been received from the Unemployment Board in Wellington stating that it cannot extend what is known as the city scale of wages to relief workers in boroughs and counties, as the board’s finances absolutely preclude any Extension of the present arrangement. The board has also advised that certifying officers have been authorised to grant a certain measure of relief to married seasonal workers who are in necessitous circumstances. The West Harbour Borough Council has communicated with Mr J. W. Munro, M.P. for Dunedin North, asking him to protest against the Unemployment Board’s action.
