OTAGO CLUB The Otago Athletic and Cycling Club held the final race for the Hinchcliffe Cup on Saturday from Reale’s Hotel to Henley and return, a distance of thirtytwo miles. A field of twelve riders faced the starter (Mr A. Holmes), and the limit men, L. Johnstone and I) Heenan, set off at 2.55 p.m. Those two riders were followed at various intervals until 0. Preen, the virtna' scratch man. left 12$ min later. I, Johnstone left his co-marker on Saddle Hill, and was riding well. At the Coacl' and Horses J. Brown and Wills, oil 7min. picked up F. Beale, and this buncli were riding well, picking up Cannon at Scroggs’s Hill. Daljwlf and B. Brown were picked up about a mile further on. This bunch set a solid pace, and it looked as though the winner would come from it. Paul picked up Heenan at East Taicri, aim. they teamed well until Otokia, whore Paul sot out on his own after J. Johnstone. At Henley L. Johnstone was unfortunate in hitting a horse on tho road, thus losing a good IJmia, and sustaining a severe shaking. However, he left on the homeward journey Imin ahead of M. Paul, who was followed 2{min later by J. Brown, B. Brown, and Wills, who in turn were imin ahead of Heenan, with Kennedy, Johnstone, Beale, and Cannon a further limin back. On the homeward journey J. Brown and Wills dropped B. Brown at Otokia, and setting a fast pace gradually picked up the remainder of the field. At Scroggs’s Hill J. Brown withdrew. Wills rode on to the finish on his own, and won easily by Imin 39sec from G. 0. Johnstone, who just defeated M. Paul in a good sprint for second place. The club’s thanks arc duo to Air J. A. Beale for the use of his dressing room, and also to tho officials who ably controlled the race. Following aro the official placings:— A. C. E. Wills (7minß, BSmin 47isec, 1; G. 0. Wills gained the fastest time, and thus wins'tho cup with 14 points, G. O. Johnstone being second with 13 points, and M. Cannon third with 10.
