GALES IN AUSTRALIA

MUCH DAMAGE TO PROPERTY HOUSES UNROOFED AND FENCES BLOWN Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, Juno 25. (Received Juno 25, at 10 a.m.) The fierce westerly gales which were experienced over a wide area covering Tasmania, Victoria, and the coastal and highland areas of New South Wales caused considerable damage. At a number of places on the south coast dozens of houses and garages were unroofed, and plate glass windows were blown in. Terrific gusts blew clown a wall of the Primary Distributing Society’s store and destroyed the aerial masts of the Wollongong broadcasting station, 2WL. The wake of the raging wind was strewn with wreckage of every description. Particularly extensive damage was done in the farming districts. Hundreds of fences and miscellaneous articles were scattered everywhere. A man was blown from a ladder and was injured. In a special warning to shipping, the Weather Bureau forecasts strong gales and rough seas over the Tasman Sea.
