GOLD STANDARD
ABOLITION IN EMPIRE SUGGESTED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. OTTAWA, May 29. The abandonment of the gold standard by the British Empire is suggested in a brief memorandum issued by the united fanners of Alberta for submission to tho Imperial Economic Conference at Ottawa in July. Tho memorandum declared: “In general the gold standard should bo abandoned as _ tho basis for commerce within tho British Empire, or in the alternative parity between the Canadian dollar and the British pound should bo established.” FURTHER SUPPORT FOR PROPOSAL. VANCOUVER, May SO. (Received May 31, at 1.5 p.m.) A Saskatoon message states that gold standard abandonment.as recommended by the Alberta United Farmers, is also desired by tho Saskatchewan branch of tho United Farmers of Canada. Mr Frank Eliason (secretary) declares that inflation, or counter-deflation, would bo of great advantage. Tho Government should take the issuance of currency entirely in its own hands.
