PRIVATE BREWERIES
BIG .EFFECT ON REVENUE LONDON, May 20. Alarmed by the increase in private breweries, particularly in the industrial areas, Excise official are beginning a campaign of suppression. It is estimated that before the extra penny a pint tax on beer the Exchequer" lost £60.000 annually through the operations of illegal breweries. This loss has vastly increased in recent months, and it is also affecting the regular breweries. There is a great demand for patent powders from which beer of Excise strength can he brewed.
