COLOURS FOR MEN

Old gold, wine, and maroon will bo the prevailing colours for men in the spring, according to the British colour council, who are investigating the problem of men’s clothes. The council think that men love fashionable colours just as women do, and that they actually copy the colours that were popular with woman a twelve-month before. Dlaroon and wino, it is said, will _be popular for socks, ties, and dressing gowns, while in the summer grey ilannels will bo worn rather than plusfours, and dull gold will take the place of old gold. In the autumn and winter blue and beige _ will be general. Another important item of interest to men is that the smoking jacket has come back, with, of course, its invariable associate, the carpet slipper. The jacket is made of velveteen, and, although here again maroon and _ wine are favourite colours, one can, if one is fond of brightness, indulge in all kinds of iridescence. Models arc supplied with or without braid, but _lho most popular variety is the genuine, spanking, pan-Vietoriau article. 'I Ins, with its atmosphere of lace curtains, aspidistras, and surreptitious Havanas in the library, is apparently what appeals most to modern youth. No doubt the next step will be, a boom in smoking caps!.
