HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMERS

GIRLS' MEETING BETTER THAN THE LAST RECORD PLUNGE-CHAMPIONSHIP TO 0. FERGUSON Good sport was provided yesterday afternoon at the Municipal Baths, when the annual swimming sports of the Otago Girls’ High School were held. Warmer conditions than experienced last year made the competitors keener in every way. Most of the racing was very close; at all times it was willing, and the novelty events dropped in at appropriate intervals brightened the proceedings. The thirty-two events were run off without delay, the standard of swimming being quite fair, whilst the diving, with the exception of an isolated case, was not so good. As usual the form competitions were the most rousing, Form V.N2 easily winning the school relay championship. In the other championship events sonic fine performances were witnessed, but there was none to equal the all-round excellence of Olga Ferguson, the Otago intermediate girls’ diving champion, who gave a versatile display, her exhibition of diving being especially pleasing. The only other feature of note was the surprisingly long plunge of Pat. Benzoin, who floated 50ft 3in, thus registering a school record and setting a standard probably never before surpassed by any New Zealand girl. Olga Ferguson won the school championship bv a fair margin, securing 19 points. Billy Juriss made a fairly good showing as runner-up with 12 points; whilst "others in the competition were placed as follow;—Sydney Wren 31 points, Kathleen Kerr 10 points, and Pat. Benzoni 8 points. Results:— 100 YARDS CHAMPIONSHIP. Olga Ferguson 1 Billy Juriss ... 2 Kathleen Kerr 3 Pat. Benzoni 4 Won by 15yds.
