AH INTERESTING LECTURE The discovery ol the tomb of Tutankhamen was one of the most romantic finds of recent history, and the story of some of the mysteries of Egypt was told to a large audience at the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall last night by the English autkor-lccturer, Mr E. Headlam Grecnhow. It was a story width was made interesting in the hands of Mr Greenhow, whose felicity of exjression, combined with an excellent sdection of slides, held his audiefice enthralled. As a sotting for his main aibject Mr Greenhow gave the audieice a picture of Egypt of to-day. The wonderful architecture of the temples bf Thebes formed an immediate introduction to the Valley of Kings, where ior such a long period Lord Carnarvon and Mr Herbert Carter had sought the tomb of Tutankhamen. Disappointment met them at every turn, but in 1932 they penetrated the 'sealed door of tlid, burial ground of the king. Robbers lad been before them, but, nevertheless, the treasure they found had been unplralleled in history. By word picture aid with actual photograph Mr Greenhov showed tho audience the actual array’of ornaments, statues, and pieces of furniture which lay heaped in the antechambers and the sarcophagus. To-da| they were in tho Cairo Museum, an object of interest and amazement to nil who pass that way. ; In addition to his lecturi Mr Greenhow gave a short pianofcrtc recital, rendering selections trom ‘ lannhauser ’ (Wagner) overture, ‘ Star if Eve ' and march—also ’ Clm Chin Clijw.’ On Thursday evening Ml Greenhow will deliver his farewell 'leciire, England, the Dear Homeland. \ His talk will embrace every portion tS England, and the magnificent photofTaphs will portfav the historic interior ind charm of old,' old England.
