A message from Canberra states that New South Wales further defaulted with overseas interest amounting to £833,793. The Commonwealth Government has remitted the full amount, plus exchange. The total amount now paid out on behalf of New South Wales is £3,058,993. MONEY RECEIVED IN LONDON LONDON, May 2. (Received May 3, at 10 a.m.) The Commonwealth has paid £655,086 interest and banks’ commission due on May 1 on New South Wales 5£ per cent, stock maturing on November 1 and 6 per cent, stock maturing 1930-40. STATE TAX DOCUMENTS DEMAND COMPLIED WITH. SYDNEY, May 2. The Federal Government’s demand for access to the State income tax documents was complied with so far as possible to-day by the State Taxation Commissioner (Mr M‘Mahon), who indicated that he was handing over only those documents which he was able to produce within the time limit allowed by the Commonwealth. ASSESSMENT NOTICES TO BE HANDED OVER. SYDNEY, May 3. (Received May 3, at 10 a.m.) The other taxation documents will be made available to the Commonwealth to-day. The notico served on Mr M‘ Mahon requiring the production of all assessment notices does not expire until May 12. It is understood that the State Government will not refuse to hand over these documents. TRUST FUNDS STATEMENT BY MR LYONS. SYDNEY, May 3. (Received May 3, at 10 a.m.) Mr Lyons, in a message to the Teachers’ Federation and Public Service Association of New South Wales, states that no State trust funds will come into the possession of the Commonwealth Government. On April 11 the banks held only £85,000 for the New South Wales Government, which had previously withdrawn £1,000,000 in cash, Mr Lyons said that money included in the withdrawals must be amounts due to trust funds. PAYMENT OF INTEREST MR CONCANNON’S THREAT. SYDNEY, May 3. (Received May 3, at 10 a.m.) Speaking at Cabramatta, Mr Concannon, Leader of the Labour Party in the Upper House, said: “If Mr Lang enters Federal politics, as ho may soon if things get worse. J hope that Mr J. M'Girr will be the new Premier.” Referring to the payment of overseas interest, Mr Concannon said that if the Privy Council’s decision favoured the State Government the Upper House would’ go almost immediately. “We will then give these big business men and the wealthy people who are crying about non-payment an opportunity of paying that interest themselves. We will see how they act.”
