OLD AGE PENSIONS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The reduction of old age pensions, made by the present Government, is a slur on the pensioners who have worked hard and have helped to make the country what it is, and have roared large families. We old age pensioners feel proud to know that we have a man in the House like Mr H. E. Holland and our member, Mr Jones, and tbo members who came over from the other side deserve great credit; they knew that they were doing the right thing. Any right thinking person cannot help thinking what a hardship the Government has put on us, not only reducing our pensions but stopping us from earning more. There are a lot of old age pensioners who could easily earn the £52 a year, blit now we are only allowed the small sum of £39. It shows what a one-sided Government we have got. if we old age pensioners could earn our £52 a year it would bo that much more for the Government tax. If the Forbes-Coates Government wants to cut down expenditure it ought to wipe out the Upper House, which is neither use nor ornament. It would only make a lew more for the old ago pension list. We old age pensioners think that the sooner we get a new Government tbo better it will be for the country at large.—l am, etc., Old Age Pensioned. May 2.
