'THE MAD GENIUS'
NEW COMEDY STAR FOR REGENT Charles Butterworth, whoso hilariously serious comedy proves an unusual feature in the new John Barrymore picture, ‘ The Mad Genius,’ which opens on Friday at the Regent Theatre, left a promising career in the profession of law for the more precarious business of making people laugh. It was six years ago that Butterworth made the change in plans, and in that time ho has become one of the nation’s best known comedians. After a season in a Chicago variety house and a tour of a vaudeville circuit, Butterworth landed in New York shows and proceeded to become a stellar attraction almost over night. Following appearances in ‘ Allez Oop,’ ‘ Good Boy,’ ‘ Sweet Adeline,’ and * Americana,’ Warner Bros, signed him for a role with Winnie Lightner in ‘ The Life of the Party ’ and started him on his motion picture career. His present appearance follows his work in ‘ Illicit,’ ‘ The Bargain,’ and ‘ Side Show,’ which has built him into a screen player of first importance, and following ‘ The Mad Genius ’ Warner Bros, announced that Butterworth would soon be featured in his own production.
