MALT EXTRACT.
TO rns EDITOR.
Sir, —In reply to " F.H.M.” 1 am sorry if I gave tho impression that we had lost the-, contract for malt extract through bias on the part of the Government officials. 1 think 1 stated clearly that while we had had many contracts from the Government, this time wo had been fairly beaten on price. Nevertheless, " E.H.M.” is right in censoiing me for what, on reflection, was too drastic a statement regarding tho prejudice of Heme people against New Zealand goods, and it was unfair on my part to visit tho sins of a few on the whole. Many ot these people from fiome are friends of my own. There are certain special lines of what miglit be termed “doctor’s” malt extracts which, with our limited population, would never pay to manufacture. If “ F.H.M.” asks me to tell him who are the officials J. meant surely he could harJiy expect mo to announce it publicly, but if lie will afford the time to call on me personally i will ,furnish him with particulars. 1 hope we can conclude this correspondence in a satisfactoiy manner. 1 have apologised for wiat I consider “ too sweeping ” a statement, and, after all, are wo not all ictuated by tho one desire, to give on: unfortunate people work and sustenance ?—I am, etc., Ciias. G. Wilson, Manager (The Wilsin Malt Extract Co. Ltd.). April 30
