MOSGIEL POLICE COURT

(Before Mr J. 11. Bartholomew, S.M.) At yesterday’s sitting of the Mosgiel Police Court, the following cases were dealt with:— Arthur Helm was fined £2 and costs (10s) for riding a motor cycle without being the possessor of a license, and John Drummond was fined 10s and costs (12s) for not having a license to drive a trade motor vehicle. 'Albert Grundy and Mcrvyn Nicol were charged ivith riding unlightcd cycles, the former being convicted and discharged and the latter being fined 5s and costs (10s). Robert Potiki was fined £2 and costs (12s) for passing another car on his wrong side. The offence resulted in a collision. Charles Albert Timblick, the owner of an unlicensed wireless set, was fined 10s and costs (12s). J. Elliott, for failing to pay his unemployment levy, was ordered to pay court costs (10s). John Flett and David Smith were charged with fighting in a public place, the Allanton Hall, when a political meeting was in progress. Both pleaded guilty.—Constable Southgate said that they were decent, reputable men, who had suddenly lost their heads over the question of the chairmanship of the meeting.—Fines of 10s each, with court costs (12s), were imposed. Alexander M'Gregor and John Riley w'ere charged with fighting on the Otokia road, but as no evidence was brought forward other than that of one of the defendants, the charges were dismissed.
