PUBLIC SERVICE SALARIES
PRIME MINISTER'S EXPLANATION [From Ode Paeliamentart Reporter.] WELLINGTON, April 15. The Government’s intentions regarding the payment of the April salaries of the Public servants was indicated to the House by Mr Forbes in reply to an urgent question. Mr Forbes said the Pill provided for salary adjustments to operate from April 1 on the same principal as was adopted last year. “ Pending the final decisions as to the graduated scales of reductions,” added Mr Forbes, “ all the departments were instructed last month that respecting the first half of the month the salary abstracts were to prepared at the then current rates of pay, and that adjustments arising out of the reductions as decided upon would be made in the abstracts for the second half of April. Arrangements are in hand for this procedure to apply so as to avoid so far as possible any delays in payment or hardship occasioned by delayed adjustment.”
