PORT CHALMERS CRICKET CLUB

— — A most successful smoke concert was held in the Buffaloes’ Hall last evening, Mr W. Corbett (president of tha club) was in the chair, and welcomed Mr J. M. Fraser (president of the 0.C.A.), Mr T. T. Badcock, Dr Moore, and Mr W. A. Rowland. Thai Chairman proposed the toast of “ The King.” Mr Middleton proposed the toast of “ The 0.C.A.,” which was responded to by Mr Fraser, who in tha course of his remarks congratulated the club upon its excellent entrance into second grade A cricket, the club’s team finishing third in the competition.] Ho expressed the opinion that before long Port Chalmers would be entering senior cricket. The season had been a. good one, and he considered that part of this was due to the success of tha coach.

Dr Moore proposed the toast of the “ Port Chalmers Cricket Club,” and in| doing so spoke of the good games that) had been played during the season,; and trusted that the club would continue to prosper. Mr Sinclair (club captain) responded,] He thought that if they had the assistance of a coach like Mr Badcock, thejj would finish further up in the competition. Mr A. Galland proposed the toast of “ The Umpires’ Association,” and spoke; of, the great assistance that the umpires gave to the game. Mr Badcock, the Otago coach, ad* dressed the meeting, and gave, those present a few points upon the game.. Mr W, A. Rowland responded to; the toast, and thanked the members for the way in which they accepted the rulings of umpires. A special toast was drunk to that ladies of the club. Mr Sinclair proposed the toast of the “ Hon. Secretary, Mr T. B. Wilson,”! and spoke of the great work he had done for the club. In his opinion Mr: Wilson was the Port Chalmers Club ia : himself. Mr Wilson thanked the proposer, and mentioned several matters that served to show what tho Port Chalmers Club had gone through during its. cricket career. Mr Rowland proposed the toast of “ Kindred Sports,” and this was responded to by Messrs Rouse (Rugby),; Neilson (rowing), Anderson (yachting)* Culbert (Soccer), Middleton( bowling),Tho following contributed items* Messrs Bambery, Brown (2), Madigan* Johnson, Neilson, Erridge.
