WHIPPET NOTES

[By Remind.] The local club held a most successful meeting at Waikouaiti, and all the events were keenly contested. Trix .Johnston’s kennel had a day out, his sterling little whippet, Wee Daphne, annexing the cup and class race. Mr J. Mitchell’s well-performed Captain Doon made no mistake in the all comers’ event and never once looked like being beaten. Bill Guthrie had his team in the pink of condition, and was decidedly unlucky to be only runner-up in two races. _ _ Jack Goodman had his clinking little slut, Colleen Doon, in rare fettle. The daughter of Captain Doon was racing away from the opposition, when Kingsford crossed the tapes and ruined Colleen Doon’s chance. Even with this interference Colleen Doon made up the leeway, and was pressing the placed clogs. Congratulations to Jim Douglas on his victory at Christchurch with Lady Be Good. The Mali Jong slut ran » trimming race, and followed it up with a good second to Belfast. Messrs Sheed and Tanner’s pup, Waving Corn, ran two good heats in the Derby, but was not seen at his best. This dog was suffering from the effects of travelling. Miss Joy Price’s clinking puppy, Pins Picture, raced particularly well in the Derby, both in his heat and final, and to get within half a length of the winner was a great performance, particin larly so when he was giving away age to the majority of the contestants. This pup is above the average, and is undoubtedly the best pup bred locally. Local enthusiasts will be sorry to hear that Pine Picture is down with a severe attack of distemper, and there are doubts of his recovering. The loss of this good pup would be a great pity, as his little owner is very keen. Jim Algie was a competitor at Christchurch with Tasman Plight and Eirst Flight. Tasman went a great race, but was in no condition to see out the 200yds. Fred. Tanner’s puppy went particularly well in the sapling race, but suffered from inexperience, and eased up when nearing the spectators.
