PRESBYTERIAN MINISTERS

* FIVE-YEAR TERM IK ONE CHARGE SUGGESTED

[Pee United Press Association.]

CHRISTCHURCH, February 25. A proposal, to limit ministers’ appointments to charges to a fixed term of five years, provoked a lengthy discussion at this morning’s session of the Presbyterian General Assembly, The discussion arose as the result of a remit from Hawke’s Bay, advocating a fixed term of five years, with a proviso that a congregation may extend the term a further two years. Mr C. Duff (Hawke’s Bay) said that if the overture were put into effect there would be no unemployment amongst ministers, and equal opportunities would be provided for all. It was decided to refer the question to the Presbyteries and sessions for consideration.
