RUMUOR OF CRASH
SEARCH FOR MYSTERY PLANE SEEN OVER BANKS PENINSULA [Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, February 25, An unconfirmed report last evening stated that an aeroplane had been seen flying over Banks Peninsula, and had crashed in the gulley below the Hilltop Hotel. Searchers were unable to find any trace of a machine or pilot. Squadron-Leader Findlay (of tho Wigram Aerodrome), states that all air force machines and the private jilanos usually kept there are accounted for. The police are still investigating. Later. Mr G. Pclby, proprietor of the Hilltop Hotel, says that smoke was observed early this morning ristig from the bush nearly throe miles below the Hilltop, in tho valley where tho first story indicated the plane to have crashed. Tho search parties have resumed operations.'
