THE UNEMPLOYMENT LEVY DUE ON FEBRUARY 1 The third instalment of the general unemployment levy will become due on Monday, February 1, and must bo paid within one month from that date. Delay in payment may adversely affect th amount of relief that is available for the unemployed, besides involving the' non-payer in the possibility of a prosecution. Magistrates all over the dominion are taking a very serious view of the tendency to delay or evade payment, and the penalties are being made considerably heavier than was previously the case.

On the same date the second instalment of the emergency charge on twothirds of income for, the year ended March 31, 1931, falls due. The person who declares his income to the Commissioner of Taxes must forward the appropriate amount of tax with his declaration, and the person , who declares to the Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department must pay the amount of tax due on presentation of his declaration at a money order office. Youths who attain the ago of twenty years afer November 1, 1931, and on or before February 1, 1932, are liable for the February instalment of the charge on income. Default in payment of the charge for more than one month after the due date renders a person liable on summary conviction to a flue of £5, and also to a penalty, without conviction, of 10 per cent. _ of the amount or the charge not paid.
