SURCHARGES LIMITED TO BUTTER • AIMED AT DENMARK. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, January 21. (Received January 22, at 11 a.m.) The Berlin correspondent of ‘The Times’ says that the German safeguarding decree surcharges are at present limited to butter, and are aimed primarily at Danish, of which_ the imports have swollen rapidly since the depreciation of the kroner. The price dropped from 130 marks to 90 marks per cwt. New Zealand butter is offering at eighty-five mariks, threatening serious injury to German dairying. An Australian merchant in London says the new duty means the virtual prohibition of Australian imports, which recently exceeded those of New Zealand. ' , , . „ The New Zealand Dairy Council officials said the most important effect of the decree would he the transference of supplies from the London market to Germany.
