ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION
BOMB THROWN AT JAPANESE EMPEROR A KOREAN ARRESTED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyrisfut. TOKIO, January 8. When the Emperor was passing the metropolitan police headquarters on his way to the palace after having attended a military review, a bomb was thrown at him and exploded on the tramway. The Emperor was not harmed. The thrower of the bomb was immediately arrested. It is believed that he is a Korean. Others in the vicinity were also’arrested on suspicion. KOBE, January 8. The newspapers throughout the country have been instructed not to mention the bomb outrage on the Emperor. It is reported that the Cabinet is tendering its resignation, but that acceptance of the resignation is unlikely. The ‘ Sun ” message says that the Cabinet has resigned.
NO POLITICAL SIGNIFICANCE CABINET’S RESIGNATION NOT ACCEPTED. TOKIO, January 8. (Received January 9, at 10.10 a.m.) Because there is no political significance attached to the bomb outrage, Cabinet’s resignation has not been accepted. Cabinet tendered its resignation because it held itself responsible in typical Japanese fashion for the failure to prevent the attempt on the Emperor’s life. The bomb was thrown at the carriage. A horse and a guardsman were injured. The assailant is a young Korean named Rihosho. Another bomb was found in his pocket. KING GEORGE'S MESSAGE (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, January 8. (Received January 9, at 11.30 a.m.), King George sent a telegram to the Emperor of Japan congratulating him on In's escape from the attempt upon his life.
