UNITED EFFORT OF WOMEN FOR DISARMAMENT
Mademoiselle Honnri Forchhammer, from Denmark, cpeakin gto the Assembly of the League of Nations on September 29, 1931, said:—“ In. a remarkable speech made by Monsieur Briand in the Assembly two years ago he appealed to the women to help in the work for peace. This year again the co-operation of women has been asked for. I want to assure you that women are taking an active part in the work for peace and goodwill among the nations, in collaboration with men as well as in their own associations. And how could this be otherwise? Women, like the small nations, have nothing to gain and everything to fear from war. And now, on the eve of the Disarmament Conference, the women’s organisations are doubling their efforts to bring , about the moral disarmament which is so essential for the success of the conference. A few days ago a number of important women’s organisations have joined together in forming a Disarmament Committee here in Geneva; and they have pledged themselves ‘ by every means in their power to help in organising the vast and growing public opinion in favour of the conference and the realisation of the world-wide cry for disarmament and security.’ Behind them are millions of women all over the world who now appeal to the men who have the power to act and therefore the chief responsibility—appeal to them in the words of . Bertha Von Suttner: ‘ Die Waffen nieder ’ (lay down your arms).” Eleven important international organisations of women have already united in the formation of a committee for the purpose of promoting the success of the World Disarmament Conference to be held next February. This committee has its headquarters at Geneva.
