TRAINS DELAYED. A shunting mishap at Thorndon station at 6 o’clock this morning resulted in both the inward and outward daylight Limited expresses being delayed, as well as several suburban trains. An engine of a goods train from Palmerston North left the rails when entering the yards, and came to rest in' such a position that the main line was not cleared nutil shortly after 10 o’clock. No damage was done. The passengers by the incoming Limited arrived by buses from Johrisonville. The Auckland Limited left at 10.15, the Napier express at 10.30, and the New Plymouth train at 10.51. DESTROYED BY FIRE. A seven-roomed house in Racecourse road, owned and occupied by Mr John Holland, was destroyed by fire this morning. The insurance on tho house was £750 in tho London and Liverpool Office, and tho furniture was covered for £350 in the Norwich Union Office. The stables, which were burned some hours later, wore insured for £SOO in the London and Liverpool Office.—Ashburton Press Association telegram.
