SOCIAL AND DANCE A specially convened general meeting of the Dunedin Highland Dancers and Pipers’ Club (Inc.) was held on Saturday evening to confirm the resolution that the name be altered to “The Scottish Society of Dunedin. This was 'carried unanimously, after wnlcii the meeting proceeded with the monthly social and dance. . . The meeting was large, and visitors from many outlying districts, as well as from Invercargill and one from Scotland were welcomed by the president (Mr George Munro). Many present were in Highland garb, and gave the meeting a distinctly Scottish setting. _ The programme was opened with community songs, the first being the New Zealand National Anthem, and the following ■ were the items:—Highland scottishe; song, March o the Cameron Men,’ Mr W. A. Steele; Highr
land fling, by combined dancers j pianoforte solo, Mr Bardsley; Irish jig, Miss MacMillan; song, ‘ Turn Ye Tae Me,t Mr Lake; hornpipe, Miss Goodlet; Gaelic song, ‘ C’ait an Caidhil an Ribhinn,’Miss Georgina Munro; double swords,. Misses N. and P. Steele, N. Kyle, mid J. Perry; community songs by the'company; Gaelic song, *Mo Bun Gael Dikes,’ Mr MacLennan; Highland reel* by two sets of Highland dancers. At this stage the mayor (Mr R. S. Black)! and Mrs Black _ entered the hall and were received with cheers. The Mayor paid a compliment tq the society for its assistance in providingthe items for the mayoress’s festival in the afternoon, and promised that he would endeavour to arrange for art entertainment in front of the Town Hall on New -Year’s Eve (Hogmanay nicht) The following items’ were then proceeded with:—Highland fling, combined Highland dancers; song, ‘ The Anchor’s Weighed,’' the Mayor;. Highland reel, by the audience; and ‘ Auld Lang Syne ’ concluded a very happy and successful evening.
