At a special meeting of the council of the Chamber of Commerce, held yesterday, it was unanimously resolved to nominate Air James Begg as vice-presi-dent at the annual meeting of tho chamber to be held next Alonday eveuing. . . At last night’s meeting of the City Council the mayor (Air 11. S. Black) and Crs Tapley and Clark were appointed representatives of the council on the Aluseum Alanagement CommittGG. The Mayor of Invercargill (Air John Miller) bad a fortunate escape from serious injury yesterday morning, when his car capsized in the . vicinity of Lorneville and he was pinned underneath. He was extricated by a farmer, and was found to be suffering severely from shock and a broken arm. Hon. Robert Scott, AI.L.C., returned to Wellington this morning. Air P. C. Carman, AI.Sc., formerly of the chemistry department of Otago University, entrained this morning eu route to England, where he will further his sudies in engineering-chemistry at the University of London. Air Carman was given a typical farewell by a large crowd of University students on the railway station. Alessrs L. L. Hills and G. Claris, inspecting officers from the General Post Office, Wellington, who have been on a visit to Dunedin, went north by the through express to-day. The latest arrivals at the Grand Hotel include Airs C. B. Trimnell, Messrs Walter E. Reid and C. PapeV (Wellington), and Mr and Airs T. M. Viekerv (Christchurch). . Afessrs T. C. Brash and H.
