Tho New Zealand amateur boxing championships wore opened to-nigiit before a large attendance. Tho entries totalled eighty-four, which is a record. Competitors and delegates wore welcomed by the mayor (Mr W. H, Woods) on behalf of the borough. Results:— LIGHT-WEIGHT, i E. Bennie (Napier) 9.10 beat J. j Simonsen (Marlborough) 9.41. Tho i winner was tho better boxer in a fairly 'even bout L. Ennis (Timaru) 9.9 beat D. Oreo (Ashburton) 9.6. Tho winner was too clever for his opponent. Both took heavy punishment. M. Candy (Manawatu) 9.1 d beat J. Kelly (Southland) 9.11. Cautious, solid fighting marked all tho rounds. E. Oxley (Manawatu) won by default from S. Common (Ashburton). N. Moulin (Christchurch) 9.10 beat R. Hutchison (Hawke’s Bay) 10.0. A keen, interesting bout, fought at a very fast pace. FEATHER-WEIGHT. L. Driberg (Napier) 8.12$ beat C. Raynor (Marlborough) 8.12. Raynor was knocked out in tho first minute. J. Franklin (Gisborne) 8.13)- beat W. Murphy (Timaru) 8.12). The*winner made the pace, and the towel was thrown in in the second round. P. G. Hawes' (Christchurch) 8.12 beat Q. Buckley (Otago) 8.13. Both i men took heavy punishment in a close I contest. D. J. Donkin (Hawke’s Bay) won by default from F. Holden (Manawatu). R. Purdio (Auckland) 9.0 beat F. Richardson (Wellington) 9.0. Tho best ringcraft of the evening was shown in this cu-'+'-si. Purdio won all the way. W. Hawes (Westport,) won by default from J. Ramsay (Oaraaru). A. Turner (New Plymouth) 8.13 boat A. M'Phco (Greymouth) 8.9. In a fast, clean, interesting fight both took heavy punishment. WELTER-WEIGHT. W. Hogg (Napier) 10.6 beat J. MIDDLE-WEIGHT. A Dasler (Marlborough) won by default from E. Collins 'Timaru). J. Croft (Greymouth) 11.4 beat L .Strickland (Wellington) 10.10. The winner forced the pace all the way. HEAVY-WEIGHT. L. Painter (Auckland) 12.6 beat F. Schumanski (Timaru). A technical knock-out in the third round. The winner did tho forcing. G. Croft (Greymouth) ILI3 beat G. Atley (Ashburton) 13.7. Both men wore staggering at the finish. Croft won on science.

A technical knock-out was awarded in the first round. H. Lister (Greymouth) 11.4 beat R. Strickland (Masterton) 31.10. In a solid encounter the winner forced the fight all tho way. i F. J.
