From April 1 to Juno 30, it was advised by the borough engineer, that a total sum of £778 4s lOd had been expended on tho Dunedin-Port Chalmers road.—Received. REPORTS. It was recommended by the Works Committee that tho application of tho Waikouaiti County Council for 100yds of metal to be spread on the Sawyers Bay road bo granted. Appreciation was expressed of the offer made by several residents to assist financially in certain work in London street, and the committee recommended that the work be proceeded with as soon as the promised subsidy of tho ratepayers had been paid. It was also recommended that two loads of rubble bo spread at the foot of Ellen street.—Cr Kay said that the London street residents’ offer was a very satisfactory one, and, provided that the Works Committee report was adopted, it was proposed to do tho work as soon as possible and put the street in good order. —The Mayor said it was pleasing to see that improvements were at last to bo carried out in London street, which he considered would one day bo a main thoroughfare of tho borough.—Cr Venn said that tho council had not long ago received a quote of about £2OO to put this street in order, and tho generous offer of the residents would now make it possible to have tho work done for about £25. It was an opportunity to have something worth while done that should not bo considered lightly.—Cr Kay stated it was a precedent of tho council to receive tho subsidy of ratepayers before commencing any such work.—The ropox-t was approved. Reporting on work done during the month, the borough inspector stated that the trees overhanging District road, Roseneath, had been cut back, and those growing between tho railway ’station and Roseneath had been felled, whilst others at the school had been similarly treated. Men were now employed cleaning Ellen street and forming a footpath. Repairs had been effected in London street, and other streets had received attention. The main road near the quarry had been raised and improved, and a start had been made on tho construction of a sidewalk from Black Jack’s Point to the Dunedin ’ boundary. Permission had been granted the council by the Harbour Board to place the fence back up to 3ft.—Adopted. That no further action bo taken by the council in connection with the proposed water supply for Burkes and St. Leonards in the meantime was a recommendation from the Water Committee. —Cr Venn said that the project had been placed fully before two unenthusiastic meetings of ratepayers, and the committee could only recommend that tho matter bo held over at present.— The report was approved. During the month, stated the Finance Committee’s report, receipts amounted to £535 6s lOd, and after the payment of accounts amounting to £739 5s there would be a rhbifc balance of £1,694 8s lid.—Adopted.
