(Received August 5, at 1 a.m.) _ The Australian Press Association learns that the Union Steam SlupCanadian Pacific merger was arranged between Lord Inchcapo and Mr E. W. Beatty (president of the Canadian Pacific Railway) during the latter’s visit to England in May. UNION COMPANY’S ANNOUNCEMENT WELLINGTON, August 4. The Union Steam Ship Company announced that a company had been incorporated under the name of tho Cana-dian-Australasian Lino Ltd., to take over the Pacific liners Aorangi and Niagara, operating between Vancouver, New Zealand, and’Australia. The company will be jointly owned and operated by tho Canadian Pacific Railway Company and the Union Steam Ship Company, and will receive tho traffic support of both companies. Mr J. C. Irons, who has represented the Union Company’s Interests in Canada for many years, has been appointed general manager of the company, with his head office in Vancouver. CANADIAN EXPORTERS INTERESTED. VANCOUVER, August 4. (Received August 5, at 10.30 a.m.) Exporters, particularly lumbermen, are keenly interested in tho shipping merger. The latter hope that their demands for the quick delivery of smaller shipments to Australia will be realised by more frequent sailings. It is reported unofficially that the Niagara and tho Aorangi ; are to run between San Francisco and Australia only.
