CANCER OF THE BONE
CLAIM 70 FIVE-YEAR CURES MILWAUKEE, July 21. Cancer of the bone, once considered hopeless, is yielding “Five-year Cures ” in 30 per cent, of the cases at Johns Hopkins University. The records were given by Dr Joseph Colt Bloodgood, of Johns' Hopkins, at a meeting of the section of radiology of the Wisconsin State Medical Society. “ In the surgical pathological laboratory,” said Dr Bloodgood, “we have complete records of all the diseases and tumours of bone for forty-two years. Thfe actual cures of cancer of bone bv 1920 were not more than 4 per cent. “On the other hand, to-day (1931) the actual percentage of five-year cures is more than thirty. This increase can only be explained by the education of enlightenment of the people, largely through the Press. Use of the X-ray to detect bone cancers early, Dr Bloodgood explained, Las made the successful treatment pos«ible.
