UNEMPLOYED RELIEF

DISTRIBUTION OF CLOTHING MALE APPLICANTS TO BE SUPPLIED BY SALVATION ARMY Tho magnitude of tho work which has been done at tho Dowling street clothing depot can bo gauged by the fact that about 1.000 registered cases have been on the books. Included in tho index cards are 500 which contain tho particulars of families—many of them large—which have been attended to. Two hundred other people, including a large percentage of single men, have also been supplied. Naturally this task has been extremely heavy on the voluntary helpers. With the approval of tho Unemployment Committee it has now been decided to hand over to the Salvation Army tho work of supplying clothing to men. After this week, therefore, men requiring articles of apparel will go to Adjutant Thomson in Langley’s Building, Maclaggan street. The Dowling street depot will remain open only for the distribution of clothing to women and children, tho two days set aside for this purpose being Tuesday and Friday of each week.

Tho workers there, however, will still attend to urgent cases of sickness, and boot repairing will still be carried out on the premises. Boots and bedding are urgently needed at the depot. The following donations to the Dowling street depot are acknowledged with thanks:—“K.N.,” goods; Mrs James Bogg, goods; Joyce Gibson, goods ;' Friend, goods; Anonymous, goods ; Mrs .Sutherland Ross, mattress; F. Wilkinson’s depot at Cavershara, goods; Messrs J. K. Butler, leather; Messrs A. and T. Inglis, goods. UNEMPLOYMENT BOARD FUNDS A DESPERATE SITUATION. Tho Unemployment Committee has decided to send tho telegram to tho local members of Parliament: — “ Tho wider allocation of tho unemployment subsidy is intensifying a desperate situaiton.
