Lysnar’s Meat Export Control Amendment Bill was continued when the House resumed at 7.30 p.m., and the Reform members again spoke in opposition to tho measure. After speeches by Alcssrs F. Waite (Clutha), A. Harris (Waitcuinta), and A. E. Ansell (Chalmers), Mr T. Makitanara (Southern Alaori) rose and intimated his desire to move tho closure. Tho Speaker said he was afraid that as tho House had rejected the closure motion late on Friday afternoon la/ could not at this stage sanction '-a similar motion. Tho debate was then resumed by Air A. Hamilton (Wallace). A division was reached at 8.45, when Mr Hamilton’s amendment to the effect that tho Bill bo read a second time six months hence was rejected by 31 votes to 23. A, Nash immediately rose to move a further amendment;—“That the Bill ho road a second time on October 11.”

Air Nash: 1 would he pleased to make it November 4 if i knew the gentleman would be about. Continuing, Air Nash said he iclt compelled to move the amendment because of the danger involved in the Bill.

Further opposition to tho Bill was interrupted approximately at 10 o’clock when Air Makitanara again sought to submit a closure motion, but tbo Speaker-declined to accept it. Shortly afterwards Air W. J. Jordan lAlauukau) drew attention to tho fact that there was nob a quorum present, and the bolls were sot ringing. Tho return of two or three members to the House, completed tho requisite number, and tho debate was then continued until the rising of the House at 10.30 p.m.
