DUNEDIN PRESBYTERY

MONTHLY MEETING The Dunedin Presbytery met yesterday afternoon, the new moderator (the Rev. 11. G. M'Dowall) occupying the chair for the first time. The retiring moderator (the Rev. Ferguson Fish) was heartily thanked for ids services. A motion of sympathy with the clerk (the Rev. J. Kilpatrick), who was absent through illness, was passed. Dr Cummings was appointed to take his place. The ordination of Miss Jean M'Nenr was set for September 1 in First Church. Professor Hewitsou is to deliver the address to the missionary and Mr H. Davies the address to the congregation. OLDEST MINISTER OF CHURCH. The Rev. H. Ryburn mentioned that the Rev. A. Greig, of Portobello, the oldest minister of the church in Now Zealand, would be ninety-three next week. Upon his suggestion it was decided that the Presbytery’s congratulations should bo forwarded to him. TEMPERANCE ACTIVITIES. The Presbytery decided to issue a circular recommending increased temperance education among the young, and also that there should ho an interchange of pulpits before the General Election, so that the resolutions embodied in the temperance report of the General Assembly might bo communicated to the people. S FACE IFF AND WARRINGTON. Mr J. M. Dick submitted a report on the position at Seacliff and Warrington. Several speakers stressed the necessity of the fusion of Seacliff and Warrington and Waitati and Merton, and it was finally agreed that the committee should confer with those concerned and endeavour to bring this about.- The Presbytery felt- strongly that those areas should ho amalgamated. The Rev. E. J. Tiplcr and Mr Magnus Johnson wore added to the committee. JUDICIAL PROCEEDINGS ACT. The Presbytery approved in general terms of the Judicial Proceedings Act, the Rill coming before Parliament m relation to the publication of matter considered to bo injurious to public morals. PROBATIONERS LICENSED. Messrs Robin Adair and D. N. MTharmid were licensed as probationers of the church.
