ANNUAL CONFERENCE

WELLINGTON, August *l. The annual conference of the I’ublic Service Association was held to-day. The Attorney-General (Sir 'J'hoinas Sidey) attended on behalf of the Government.
In the course of his remarks, Sir Thomas Sidey referred to the cut which the economic position had rendered necessary, and said the Government appreciated tho loyalty of tho service and the uncomplaining manner in which the reduction was accepted by the service generally. Ho felt that the association could render a distinct public service in endeavouring to maintain a spirit of friendliness in tho existing circumstances.
Tho report and balance-sliceb were adopted and the conference went into committee on the remits. The election of officers resulted as follows President, Mr A. Burgess; vice-presidents, Messrs H.
