SUBSTANTIAL RISE IN SHEEP PRICES Tljc quality of the fat cattle yarding at Burnside to-day was not quite up to that seen in the past two or throe weeks. Approximately 230 head of cattle were in. The Stirling graziers were the only ones to send in prime heavy-weights. One truck of Polled Angus from Canterbury met with a poor sale. Prices taken all round were from 15s to 20s a head below last week’s for tho heavy variety, and 10s down on heifers and light bullocks, Mr Grtorgo Wilson, Stirling, securei £l9 for a pen of extra heavy choice stuff, but the balance of the host bullocks sold from £l4 10s to £l(s 10s. Prime heifers sold from £9 to £ll, and cows from £7 to £B. Prices worked out at 35s per 1001 b for prime quality, 32s (3d for light bullocks, 30s for heifers, and from 22s (id to 25s for cows. There was a substantial rise in the sheep prices, and tho sale was steady all through. Close on 2,000 sheep were entered. Several trucks of extra prime wethers came from Southland, but good owes were in short supply. Two or throe trucks of nice half-bred wethers were also in. Quito a number of pens of wethers reached 25s and over, and very inferior lambs even went up to 17s. Prices wore equal to 4id per lb for wethers and for ewes. A very small yarding of lambs was bought up by tho butchers at prices ranging between. 18s and 19a 3d. Sixty-three porkers and thirty stores made up the pig yarding. Porkers showed an advance in price of several shillings, and bacon pigs were sold at prices equal to last week. The prices per lb would he:—Porkers, 7d; bacon pigs, Cd. A very poor yarding of stores was made up almost entirely of old cows and light steers, which sold at late rates.
