LADIES’ GOLF

OTAGO CHAMPIONSHIPS FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND The first qualifying round of the Otago ladies’ golf championship was played at IJalniacewen this morning. Thanks to the attentions of Mr Milliner and his staff, the course was in perfect condition and as the weather was reasonably fine the playing conditions in general were all that could be desired. The arrangements for the conducting of the tournament are in the capable hands of the secretary (Miss E. M. Hart), and altogether there are prospects of a very successful three and a half days’ gathering. All the competitions have attracted large entries, but for some reason or other there are not so many visitors to Dunedin as usual. The two best cards of the morning wore handed in by last year’s finalists, Miss 0. Kay and Mrs Dodgshun. The former went round in par 7C and the latter in 80. Cards: Miss Kay—Out, 545346454, 40; in, 3535445.34, 36. Airs Dodgsluiu—Out, 555354455, 41; in, 374434536, 39. Miss llutherford, of

Shirley, returned an 83. Quite a number of well-known local players failed to maintain their past form. In some instances the fact that the greens were running faster than recently has been tho case was submitted by way of partial explanation. Tho following are tho scores (gross) in the championship first qualifying round:—
