RETURNED SOLDIERS’ AFFAIRS

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE The first meeting of tho executive of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association for the new year was held last night. The new president, Mr W. F. Forrester, was in the chair. Tho Chairman extended a hearty welcome to the new members of the executive, and hoped they would _ all pay strict attention to the various subcommittees and to the executive. MEMBERSHIP. Eleven nominations were _ approved and one resignation was received. SUB-COMMITTEES. The following sub-commitees were appointed : Finance and Club Management.— Messrs A. Thomas, A. MTTutchon, J. A. Cameron, and J. S. Skinner. Social. —Messrs P. S. Anderson, A. Thomas, J. G. Adair, A. S. Falconer, and G. H. Ferens. Lands and Publicity.—Messrs A. J. Gordon, H. L. Paterson, P. S. Skinner, and P. S. Anderson. Billiards.—Messrs J. A. Cameron, L. Mercier, and J. G. Adair. Pensions and Limbless. —Messrs A, J. Gordon, A. Leeden, L. Mercier, and P. S. Anderson. Unemployment and Poppy Day.— Messrs A. * MTiutchon, H. L. Paterson, J. S. Skinner, and A. J. Gordon. Representative to Local Unemployment Board.—Mr A. M'Hutchon. CHRISTMAS TREAT. Mr P. S. Anderson reported that be and Mr Ferens had selected a large number of toys for the children’s Christmas treat. The association desired to secure as many mechanical toys as possible, but it was found that a large number of these were made in Germany, and it was considered undesirable to distribute these amongst the children, of deceased soldiers. POPPY DAY. Regarding the organising of the Poppy Day campaign, Mr A. Thomas said that several suburban districts had been poorly canvassed this year. Mr M'Hutclion said that the result had been very satisfactory in spite of the wave of depression. ANZAC DAY. The annoyance caused by motorists who used their car horns in the vicinity of the Queen’s Gardens while the service on Anzac Day was in progress was mentioned, and it was to approach the authorities with a view to having the traffic stopped or diverted on future occasions. Regarding the parade of ex-service men, it was the opinion of the association that in future the men parade as their former units. GENERAL. Mr H. L. Paterson was granted a month’s leave of absence on account of illness. Mr Ferens reported that the association’s Miniature Rifle Club was proving quite successful and was in full swing. An invitation to attend the annual reunion of the Kaitangata Sub-associa-tion was received.—The secretary was instructed to notify the sub-association that the association would be represented.
