NEW MUSICAL FILM FOR EMPIRE
RAMON NOVARRO WELL SUPPORTED Ramon Novarro is surronndou by one of tho most elaborate casts he has headed in a long time, in ‘ Call of the Flesh.’ Mctro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s romantic drama with music, which will open on Friday at tho Empire Theatre. Dorothy Jordan, who played opposite the star in ‘Devil May Caro ’ and ‘ln Gay Madrid,’ again acts as his heroine in the now story, a vivid drama of tho life and love of-.-. Spanish opera singer, tho role played by Novarro in the picture. Reno AdoreQ, who played with him in ‘ Tho Ragan,’ plays the rival sweetheart as a fiery Spanish dancer.
Ernest Torrence is seen as tho singer’s aged teacher, a former opera star, and Mathildo Commit, French stage actress, appears as another former opera star also aiding in launching the young singer to success. Nance O’Neil is seen as tho Mother Superior in tho convent scenes, and Russell Hopton, stage actor, plays a talking screen role as tho heroine’s brother.
Novarro sings songs specially composed, including ‘ Not Good Enough for Mo,’ ‘Just for To-day,’ and ‘ Lov ing Thoughts of You.’ ‘ Tho Call of the Flesh ’ is reported ns an outstanding picture. Box plans are at The Bristol. —J’L HL
