RECEPTION AT THE SAVOY

On Wednesday afternoon the mayor and mayoress (Mr and Mrs R. S. Black) invited members of the various organisations in the city to tho Savoy to meet their Excellencies tho Gover-nor-General and Lady Bledisloe. Nothing could have been more beautiful for tho occasion than the Tudor Hall. The decorative scheme was carried out in flowers in shades of deep rose and pink, roses being used for tho tea tables. Tho Governor-General, in conversation with tho mayor, congratulated the city on having such a beautiful room for entertaining, and remarked on the exquisite arrangement of the flowers. The guests of honour entered through tho lounge, where the guests were presented to them by the mayor and mayoress. Everything was of quite an informal nature, their Excellencies being delighted to meet and chat to each one personally. Tea was served at long polished tables set with dainty mats and at small ones dotted about. During the afternoon Miss Kathleen Geeriu sang ‘ One Lovely Day’ and ‘ The Ash Grove,’ an old Welsh air, with Ur Galway at. the piano. Lady Bledisloe wore for the occasion a simple frock of black crepo do chine, with long roll collar in white, and a smart black hat. Mrs Black wore an ensemble of beigo lace, with a wide-brimmed hat to tone. Other guests wore: Sir Charles and Lady Statham (who wore a black Jaco and georgette frock with black-and-white hat). Sir Lindo and Lady Ferguson (cinnamon georgette frock and velvet toque to tone), Sir John Roberts and .Miss Hunter-Weston (floral georgette frock and navy fiat), Dr and Mrs Marshall Macdonald (jumper suit in red currant shade, with black bat), Mr and Mrs W. F. Edmond (figured ninon frock and black hat), Mr and Mrs C. do R. Andrews (beige georgette frock, large black hat, trimmed with beige), Dr and Mrs North (black and jade frock, with hat to match). Captain and Mrs Watson (black frock and bat, with white furs), Mr and Mrs Waddell Smith (black suit and hat),. Mr G. L. Denniston and Miss Dennistou (black floral crepe de chine and black hat), Mr and Mrs W. Begg (blue and beige frock, bine hat), Mr and Mrs J. Wilson (black frock and black hat with pink), Mr F. H. King and Miss Evelyn King (black tailored suit, black hat with pink), Dr and Mrs Fergus (black and white suit, black hat), Mr and Mrs A. C.
