DRILL HALL CARNIVAL

MANUFACTURERS’ GREAT EFFORT LAST MEETING OF COMMITTEE A very representative meeting of the Executive of Conveners of the Manufactures’ Exhibition and Carnival Committee was held recently in the University Club. An adjournment was made after lunch to tho lounge, where the chairman, Mr James Hogg, paid a warm tribute to all tho voluntary workers, both men and women, who by their efforts hud made the exhibition and carnival such an outstanding success—not only had the funds of the cancer appeal reaped a satisfactory financial gain, but the publicity given to New Zealandmade goods by tho excellent displays staged had well repaid the fifty manufacturers who had exhibited at the Drill Hall. The whole carnival had been run without friction and entirely harmoniously, and was an example of the team work for which Dunedin was noted. Mr P. 11. Sargood, in moving tho adoption of tho statement of receipts and expenditure, congratulated all concerned on tho success of tho effort. He personally had thoroughly enjoyed tho fortnight’s work as chairman of the Finance Committee, and he stated that the exhibition was evidence of the fact that when Dunedin did anything it did it well. Mr W. G. Kindley, in seconding the motion, referred to the wonderful spirit shown by all the voluntary workers, and expressed his gratification at the loyal way in which the members of tho Manufacturers’ Association had come forward, and in such a short space of time had staged an exhibition which was worthy of being classed alongside the lockl industries court of the big New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition. He felt proud to have been associated with a venture which had begun and finished with such a swing. Tho motion was carried unanimously. On the motion of Mr T. Somerville a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Hogg, to whoso energy and enthusiasm the success of tho exhibition was largely duo.—Mr Hogg thanked the members for their loyal support, which, he said, had made his task an easy one, and ho concluded by wishing all present the compliments of tho season.
