Hayward, an American, and Miss Egomersal, a British nurse, left a station da Lanchow at the end of October for Peking. Mrs Hayward, who was critically ill, was seeking a surgical operation. Last week, when they were travelling! on rafts twenty miles from Patoacheff, bandits captured, robbed, and stripped them of their clothing. The women are still in captivity. The weather is'bitterly cold. Other missionaries are attempting to rescue them. A relief party, which will leave Peking to-morrow, includes Captain Staples, of the British Navy.
